Lamb Of God’s “Burn The Priest Legion: XX” Review

Lamb Of God’s “Burn The Priest Legion: XX”

Review

By Kevin Miller

Burn the Priest’s newest album is a surprising release from the Richmond, VA band, Lamb of God. Debuting back in 1999 with their self titled album, it was a shock to many to learn that a new record was being recorded under the Burn the Priest name. On May 18th, 2018, the all covers album Legion: XX was released under Nuclear Blast.

This album showcases cover tracks from Agnostic Front, Bad Brains, and Stormtroopers of Death; to name a few. The songs covered on this album are said to be an influence of each band member individually. Front man Randy Blythe said this album has been in the minds of the band since shortly after their debut back in ’99.

The album fires off with a heavy cover of ‘Inherit the Earth’ originally performed by The Accused. Staying true to the American Metal sound, the cover translates organically with a definitive sound that could only stem from the boys from Lamb of God. The sound stays consistent through the entire album, and only seems to intensify as it progresses.

Chris Adler’s heavy hitting blasts through each track leaving a trail of destruction in its wake, only to be followed by the shredding of dueling guitars from brother Willie Adler, and Mark Morton. Vocalist Randy Blythe demonstrates a wide range through the record while John Campbell walks a thick bassline to tie it all together.
